چکیده

This enzyme, called the photosynthetic water oxidation complex (WOC), liberates protons and electrons needed for energy production and reduction of NADP’ and quinones that are essential for plant growth. The 0, formed in Equation 1 is not essential for plant survival, but is essential for other organisms on Earth, since it is by far the major source of global OL production for the atmosphere. The unique character of this enzyme is indicated by two observations. First, there does not exist a manmade functional mimic of this enzyme despite considerable synthetic efforts. Secondly, Nature appears to have adopted only a single solution for catalysis by the WOC, as implied by the apparent duplication of the same basic inorganic core of the enzyme throughout all known oxygenic plants and algae examined to date.

Fourier transform infrared difference spectroscopy for studying the molecular mechanism of photosynthetic water oxidation

The photosystem II reaction center mediates the light-induced transfer of electrons from water to plastoquinone, with concomitant production of O2. Water oxidation chemistry occurs in the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC), which consists of an inorganic Mn4CaO5 cluster and its surrounding protein matrix. Light-induced Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) difference spectroscopy has been successfully u...

A molecular model of artificial photosynthesis: Mn-Ca binuclear complex for photosynthetic oxidation of water.

The redox active component of oxygenic photosynthetic reaction center II contains metal cluster Mn4-Ca, where two H2O are oxidized to O2 and four H+ ions are liberated. A binuclear Mn-Ca metal center binding one substrate H2O on each ion is proposed to be the minimal unit of the redox center. A model for the water oxidizing metal cluster is built with molecular modeling software (HyperChem 8.0 ...

Using small molecule complexes to elucidate features of photosynthetic water oxidation.

The molecular oxygen produced in photosynthesis is generated via water oxidation at a manganese-calcium cluster called the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC). While studies in biophysics, biochemistry, and structural and molecular biology are well known to provide deeper insight into the structure and workings of this system, it is often less appreciated that biomimetic modelling provides the founda...

Review Paper FORMATION OF HYDROXYL RADICALS FOR WASTE WATER TREATMENT BY PHOTO-CATALYTIC OXIDATION PROCESS

Organic pollution is the term used when large quantities of organic compounds are found in waste water. It originates from domestic sewage, urban run-off; industrial effluents and agriculture wastewater. Water shortage and water quality are the main issues in the global water crisis. As the population increases, there is ever growing demand on water resources. Wastewater with organic pollutants...

Photosynthetic water oxidation at high O2 backpressure monitored by delayed chlorophyll fluorescence.

The atmospheric dioxygen is produced by photosynthetic organisms. This light-driven process culminates in what appears as one step: a four-electron abstraction from two water molecules bound to the Mn4Ca complex of photosystem II. Recently, an intermediate of the O2-producing reaction sequence was stabilized by elevated oxygen backpressure and detected by UV flash photometry [Clausen, J., and J...
